Carestream Participating in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Session at Upcoming SIIM Conference

Company’s Vue PACS Workstation Enhances Productivity by Allowing Users to Read Digital Breast Modalities and General Radiology Exams from a Single Desktop

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 7 — A Carestream executive will be a panel participant in a session on “Digital Breast Tomosynthesis: Ready for PACS Prime Time?” to be held Saturday, May 30, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm in the Innovation Theater of the Gaylord National Convention Center during the annual meeting of SIIM (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine). The discussion will be moderated by David A. Clunie of PixelMed.

Ron Muscosky, Carestream’s Worldwide Product Line Manager for Healthcare Information Solutions, will describe integration of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) with workstations, PACS and vendor-neutral archives and address questions from attendees. Objectives of the session include: discuss infrastructure, integration, and standardization challenges posed by DBT and learn about the requirements and solutions that are defined in the IHE DBT Profile.

Digital Breast TomosynthesisCarestream offers an advanced DBT module that is accessible from its Vue Mammo Workstation and Vue PACS. This advanced DBT module includes a new slabbing tool that combines slices of a DBT series, while allowing the user to choose different rendition modes and slab thicknesses.

One study that documents the effects of setting the slab thickness of volumes to 2 millimeters found that visibility of micro-calcifications improved.

Carestream’s DBT module also offers improved workflow capabilities and specialized tools for comparing 2D and 3D datasets, along with the display of DICOM-compliant 2D synthetic views. The synthetic views, which are calculated from the 3D dataset, can help eliminate additional imaging exams, thereby reducing patient dose while offering enhanced visualization of digital breast tomosynthesis technology.

Carestream’s Vue Mammo workstation and PACS allows reading of traditional mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, DBT or general radiography exams from a single desktop. Healthcare providers worldwide use Carestream’s Vue PACS and mammography reading tools for routine screening mammograms as well as diagnostic mammography exams.
