Carestream Will Participate in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Session to Be Held at SIIM 2014

Carestream’s Vue PACS Workstation Enhances Productivity by Allowing Users to Read Digital Breast Modalities and General Radiology Exams from a Single Desktop

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 16 — Carestream will be a panel participant in a session on “Problems and Solutions in Breast Tomosynthesis” to be held during the 2014 meeting of SIIM (Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine). The discussion will be moderated by Matthew B. Morgan, MD, University of Utah Health Sciences Center. It will take place on Thursday, May 15, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm in the Innovation Theater of Exhibit Hall B at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Ron Muscosky, Carestream’s Worldwide Product Line Manager for Healthcare Information Solutions, will discuss the challenges and solutions related to implementing digital breast tomosynthesis with workstations, PACS and vendor-neutral archives.

This advanced DBT module includes specialized tools for comparing 2D and 3D datasets, along with the display of DICOM-compliant 2D synthetic views. The synthetic views, which are calculated from the 3D dataset, can help eliminate additional imaging exams, thereby reducing patient dose while offering the enhanced visualization of digital breast tomosynthesis technology.  

Carestream’s Vue Mammo Workstation and Vue PACS enable radiologists to read traditional mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, digital breast tomosynthesis or general radiography exams from a single desktop, eliminating the need to view procedures from disparate systems.

Objectives of the session include:

  • A discussion of additional challenges posed by DBT images (as compared to conventional full field digital mammography) for acquisition, storage, distribution, compression, display, CAD and long-term archiving;
  • Review of the breast tomosynthesis DICOM standard; and
  • Identifying requirements needed to support DBT, such as PACS, vendor-neutral archiving, cloud storage, and local/remote/CD viewers.
