Spire Healthcare Signs First UK CARESTREAM Vue for Cloud Services Deal

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, Aug 2013 - Spire Healthcare, one of the largest private healthcare providers in the UK, has signed up for CARESTREAM Vue for Cloud Services as a natural progression to upgrade its existing Carestream PACS solution.

‘We could see the clear benefits that adopting this solution could bring to the business,’ said John Hill, PACS Manager for Spire Healthcare. ‘Radiologists and clinicians will have access to Carestream's full clinical diagnostic toolset both locally within the hospital and externally while working away from Spire, while our Radiology Managers will benefit from enhanced features such as 'business intelligence' and 'My Vue', allowing them to perform their daily activities more efficiently. The radiologists will also have greater flexibility, given the appropriate reporting station, as they will be able to report images captured within a Spire hospital from another location, using the 'Global Worklists' feature in Carestream Vue PACS.’

Spire Healthcare operates 38 private hospitals across the UK with Carestream CR, RIS and Vue Motion currently installed at all sites and Carestream PACS installed at 27 locations. As part of the seven year contract for Vue for Cloud Services, the existing Carestream RIS and PACS system will be upgraded to Vue RIS and Vue PACS, and their Healthcare IT Services will transition from a managed service based model to a Software-as-a-Service (Saas) model, an innovative approach to managing imaging information on a predictable, pay-as-you-go basis. Carestream will host the new Vue for Cloud PACS and Vendor Neutral Archiving services in their first independent UK Data Centre. Once the vendor neutral Carestream Vue Cloud solution is fully implemented Spire expects to see a significant reduction in the turnaround time of radiology reports and an increase in consultant satisfaction. ‘The hospitals, and in particular clinical users, will benefit from a number of enhancements such as immediate access to new and historical patient images and reports via the 'Vue Cloud Portal'’, explained John Hill. ‘We also hope to see a significant reduction in operating and support costs over the lifetime of the contract.’

The Carestream Vue Cloud solution at Spire Healthcare has been developed to help healthcare providers manage an ever growing volume of clinical data. It will also aid the timely sharing of this data, among the institutions and healthcare professionals who need them at the point of care, within a seamless workflow. ‘The fact that we can hand over responsibility for securely storing our new and historical data has major operational and financial benefits for Spire,’ said John.
