New Extend Program Enables Users to Upgrade Existing CR and DR Systems

New Hardware, Software Upgrades Optimize Functionality, Extend Life Span of Existing Imaging Systems

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 30 — Carestream’s new Extend Program equips users to quickly and affordably upgrade existing CARESTREAM DRX and DIRECTVIEW CR and DR Systems with the company’s latest features and functionality. These software and hardware upgrades deliver compelling advantages including image enhancement features, improved productivity and streamlined workflow—while maximizing a healthcare facility’s capital investment.

New features support specialty applications such as enabling CR systems to perform mammography exams and adding long-length imaging (including stitching software) for orthopedic exams. Monitoring patient exposure is a new capability being required by regulatory agencies across the globe. An IEC exposure index allows technologists to see if they are within the acceptable exposure range prior to performing a patient exam while new management software helps imaging providers meet regulatory requirements for dose reporting.

Other upgrades streamline information sharing. For example, a DICOM Modality worklist feature transfers patient and exam data from the HIS/RIS system to eliminate manual data entry. The imaging system can also automatically notify the HIS/RIS of exam status.

Updated administrative analysis and reporting software delivers a digital dashboard of performance metrics for CARESTREAM CR and DR imaging systems to help managers analyze results and identify areas that need improvement.

New features that improve visualization and can enhance patient care include:

  • Ability to create a companion image (from the original exposure) for pneumothorax visualization that accentuates the appearance of free air in the chest cavity
  • A new ICU package offers a companion image for improved visualization of tubes and lines
  • Pediatric image optimization and enhancement software expands and integrates a range of seven patient sizes as specified by FDA regulations for pediatric exams. A new pediatric quality package also includes Carestream’s Total Quality Tool to verify image quality of CR cassettes and DR detectors as well as the system’s administrative analysis and reporting software.
