Innovative Technology That Allows Patients to Electronically Access and Share Their X-Ray Exams

Empowering Patients to Manage Their Own Medical Records is Included In Upcoming Regulations for U.S. Healthcare Providers

CHICAGO, Nov. 27 — Carestream spotlighted its new patient portal that can empower patients to electronically access and manage their X-ray exams—and then share that data with specialists and other healthcare professionals. Carestream demonstrated its MyVue portal and other medical imaging and healthcare IT systems at the world’s largest radiology tradeshow held this week in Chicago.

“The healthcare industry is moving to embrace exciting new technologies that allow patients to play a greater role in their medical care. Pending regulations in the U.S. are designed to reward healthcare providers that deliver these capabilities to their patients,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health.

The Web-based portal is implemented by healthcare providers to allow patients to download information to PCs, laptops, iPads or other devices. It’s easy to use and more convenient than managing DVDs, CDs or other physical storage formats for medical records.

Carestream also demonstrated innovative technologies used in oncology treatment, reading of mammography exams, and digital capture of X-ray images:

  • New lesion management tools (see video demo) that can help enhance accuracy in assessing changes in cancerous lesions as part of diagnosis and treatment for oncology patients.
  • A smaller-format digital radiography detector* that is designed to help enhance patient care by providing high-quality, dose-sensitive X-ray images for pediatric, orthopedic and general radiology exams. The detector was shown as a work in progress and is not available in the U.S.
  • Display of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) exams on a CARESTREAM Vue Mammo Workstation where radiologists can also view traditional mammograms, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and general radiology exams.
  • Enhancements to Carestream’s radiology information system including the storage and tracking of radiation dose information and other capabilities that lay the groundwork to support cumulative dose tracking, which is an important patient care initiative worldwide; and
  • A new laser imaging system that prints high-quality general radiology and mammography images onto radiographic film.

Carestream Health will display its latest medical imaging and healthcare IT solutions at the annual Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) meeting. For more information please visit www.carestream.com.
