Houston Healthcare’s Six CARESTREAM DRX Systems Represent ‘Huge Step Forward in Patient Care’

DR Systems Streamline Image Delivery, Reduce Patient Dose by Half

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 20 — Clinicians at Houston Healthcare (Warner Robins, Ga.), believe the installation of a CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution System, CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems and CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit kits represent a significant improvement in patient care, according to Tim Sisco, Houston Healthcare’s Director of Cardiovascular and Imaging Services.

“Instant access to high-quality digital radiography images enables Houston Healthcare to take a huge step forward in patient care, especially for acute care patients in our ER and ICU,” Sisco said. “Since clinicians can now see images in less than five seconds, they can immediately assess a patient’s condition and begin appropriate treatment.”

Sisco said the healthcare system implemented DR systems to achieve immediate image access, higher image quality, and lower patient dose. “The DRX systems are exceeding our expectations. We have dramatically improved image quality while cutting patient dose in half when compared to our previous CR systems. Our increased efficiency will enable our staff to handle higher volumes without adding new X-ray equipment.”

Houston Healthcare includes the 237-bed Houston Medical Center, 45-bed Perry Hospital, an outpatient imaging center and three urgent care centers. Houston Medical Center installed a fully automated, dual-detector DRX-Evolution in the hospital’s busiest imaging room, which handles ER patients and general radiology exams.

The hospital also converted two existing portable imaging systems with DRX-1 wireless detectors to improve care for ER and ICU patients, and installed a DRX-1 system in a general radiology room. Two additional DRX-1 systems were installed in the busy outpatient imaging center. The urgent care centers use Carestream CR systems.

Detectors Can Be Used With Any DRX System
According to Sisco, one of the additional benefits of the DRX detectors is their flexibility. “Since the wireless DR detectors can be used with any of our DRX systems, they offer built-in redundancy. I am extremely impressed with the design of both the detectors and the DRX systems. Implementation of wireless communication was flawless and even the largest exams are available from our PACS in just 10-20 seconds,” Sisco reports.
