Winthrop-University Hospital Places Multi-Million-Dollar Order

Hospital Decision-Makers Opt for Affordable, Predictable Business Model that Offers Ongoing Technology Refreshment

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 29 — Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, N.Y., signed a seven-year, multi-million-dollar order for cloud-based RIS/PACS and vendor-neutral archiving services from Carestream Health. Carestream’s eHealth services deliver full RIS/PACS functionality for image review, storage and distribution throughout the enterprise including delivering advanced reading tools to on-site or remote radiologists. Cloud-based archiving of patient data and imaging studies is also included. All these healthcare IT services are part of Carestream’s cost-effective family of  CARESTREAM eHealth Managed Services .

“Based on a thorough evaluation, we elected to purchase cloud-based services instead of a traditional RIS/PACS on-site installation. This service model is attractive because it offers affordable and predictable operating expenses, an uptime guarantee of 99.9%, and the ability to obtain ongoing technology refreshment from one of the world’s leading healthcare IT providers,” said Enrico Perez, BS, RT, CRA, Administrative Director, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Department of Radiology.

Winthrop-University Hospital is a 591-bed university-affiliated medical center and state-designated Regional Trauma Center. The hospital selected Carestream Health as its eHealth services provider because of its proven track record of worldwide implementations.

“In the past, Carestream has demonstrated reliable and consistent leadership as our digital imaging provider. We believe they have both the expertise and commitment to provide us with advanced technology, excellent performance and outstanding support for these vital healthcare IT solutions—all within a system that ensures the privacy of patient information as well,” said A. Orlando Ortiz, MD, MBA, FACR, Professor and Chairman, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Department of Radiology.

Opportunity to Reduce Costs Drives Adoption of Services Model
Carestream’s cloud-based services provide technology obsolescence protection and can reduce costs by up to 30 percent. “The pace of technological change and the expense of purchasing, managing and upgrading a radiology IT infrastructure is motivating healthcare facilities worldwide to implement Carestream’s cloud-based services,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health. ”Our innovative and cost-effective portfolio of RIS/PACS and archiving applications deliver rapid access to patient data and images along with advanced reading and viewing tools for radiologists and clinicians at any on-site or off-site location.”

With Carestream Health’s cloud-based services, healthcare facilities pay a per-study usage charge instead of investing in building, maintaining and upgrading a large internal IT infrastructure. The company’s cloud-based services have been adopted globally and Carestream Health currently manages more than 25 million medical imaging studies.
