Evolution of Meaningful Use In Radiology Educational Seminars

Free Sessions in Philadelphia, Dallas Will Focus on Meaningful Use Criteria and Link to Electronic Medical Records

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 7 — Carestream Health is sponsoring an upcoming seminar designed to educate radiology professionals about U.S. healthcare reform’s Meaningful Use criteria as it relates to electronic medical records.

The Evolution of Meaningful Use in Radiology” seminar was developed for radiologists, radiology administrators, chief information officers, chief administrators, RIS/PACS administrators and senior technologists. Tuition is free. It will be offered at The Ritttenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia, Penn., on Tuesday, June 21, and at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, July 12.

Each educational session will be hosted by two of the radiology profession’s leading experts in healthcare information technology:

  • Keith J. Dreyer, D.O., Ph.D. , Associate Chairman, Medical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital, Assistant Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School.
    • Dr. Dreyer has been a participating member of Meaningful Use legislation, representing the American College of Radiology. He will highlight the specific topics and opportunities that relate to radiology, and decipher the daunting quantity of information related to Meaningful Use requirements.

 

  • David S. Mendelson, M.D., FACR, Professor of Radiology, Chief of Clinical Informatics MSMC, Director of Radiology Information Systems, Pulmonary Radiology, The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
    • Dr. Mendelson will discuss the evolution of sharing images from film to CD and ultimately to the Internet. The discussion will include a review of current solutions for handling CDs as well as Internet-based sharing, including cloud services. 


The Philadelphia session also will feature Maureen Gaffney, MHS, RPCA, RN, who is Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Medical Information Officer at Winthrop University Hospital (Mineola, N.Y.), and a Registered Nurse and a Physician Assistant. Gaffney has facilitated hospital-wide quality and patient safety initiatives through the use and implementation of health information technology that led Winthrop University Hospital to receive the 2009 American Hospital Association Pursuit of Excellence Award and the 2009 HANYS Pinnacle Award for Quality and Safety.
