Tufts Medical Center Orders Flexible RIS PACS From Carestream Health

Company’s eHealth Managed Services to Provide Off-Site Disaster Recovery

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 15 — Tufts Medical Center of Boston, Mass., recently ordered a RIS/PACS solution from Carestream Health, Inc., to streamline workflow at the prominent teaching hospital. The medical center also contracted with Carestream Health’s eHealth Managed Services (eMS) for remote disaster recovery.

“The CARESTREAM RIS/PACS is a flexible platform that will allow us to customize our workflow to meet both our clinical and teaching requirements. The new RIS will equip us to provide centralized patient scheduling for multiple sites for the first time, while the PACS will deliver native 3D functionality that can eliminate the need for dedicated 3D workstations,” said Michael P. Foley, (RT) (R), Director of Radiology Services, Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children.

The 451-bed Tufts Medical Center is a world-class academic medical institution that pioneers groundbreaking research and hosts numerous clinical trials.

CARESTREAM RIS can improve radiology workflow by equipping schedulers to view all clinical staff required when scheduling an exam (radiologist, technologist and/or nurse). It features a one-step tool that allows simultaneous entry of an exam order when an exam and appointment are scheduled. The RIS also supports patient scheduling at multiple locations. CARESTREAM RIS is Microsoft® .NET-connected to offer a thin-client platform that simplifies system management, while also enabling full Windows functionality at each workstation.

CARESTREAM PACS delivers a unified virtual desktop with native and integrated advanced 3D applications that facilitate faster reading of CT, MR and PET/CT exams. It also includes a new PowerViewer that goes beyond the functionality offered by integrated or native 3D capabilities to provide automatic registration and matching of volumetric data created at different times and by different modalities directly within the standard viewer used by radiologists. As a result, radiologists are able to dynamically view image data in different planes without switching to other applications or workstations.

CARESTREAM eHealth Managed Services provides cost-effective remote back up data storage to help healthcare providers comply with disaster recovery/business continuity regulations. eMS stores imaging studies in a DICOM format to protect data integrity and can quickly restore healthcare providers’ records in the event of a disaster. eMS manages more than 10 million imaging studies worldwide—representing more than 500 terabytes of data. The company operates eight data centers in five countries to service healthcare providers throughout North America and Europe.
