Carestream Health’s Non-Destructive Testing Group Receives BAM Certification Based on International Standards

November 25, 2008

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 25 — Carestream Health, Inc., announced its Non-Destructive Testing Solutions group has received certification from the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und–prüfung (BAM) for its innovative KODAK INDUSTREX M100 Film.

BAM (also known as the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing) is an internationally recognized research and materials testing organization under the German government’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. BAM certification is viewed around the world as an independent statement of quality, and certifications are awarded to select organizations based on rigorous analysis of performance data, random product sampling and periodic on-site manufacturing audits.

Carestream Health’s line of industrial x-ray films are used to detect variations in structure, weld quality, corrosion, measure minute changes in surface finish, detect the presence of cracks or other physical discontinuities, and to determine other characteristics of industrial products.

KODAK INDUSTREX M100 Film is an ASTM E1815 Class I and EN 584-1:2006 and ISO 11699-1:2008 Class 2 film that offers very fine grain with extremely high contrast and definition. KODAK INDUSTREX M100 Film is used in many critical inspections in a wide range of materials. KODAK INDUSTREX M100 Film is the film of reference for the nuclear power industry.

The company’s Non-Destructive Testing organization has previously received three BAM certifications in 2006 for its KODAK INDUSTREX AA400, T200 and MX125 Films. The BAM film system certification implies that the performance of film systems is monitored continuously with respects to the international film systems classification standards. “Carestream Health is a company that believes in the importance of standards, and we are continuously seeking and updating certifications of all types as part of our commitment to provide the best non-destructive testing products on the market,” said Martin G. Graen, Carestream Health’s Worldwide General Manager for Non-Destructive Testing Solutions.

Non-destructive testing comprises those test methods used to examine an object, material or system without impairing its future usefulness. The term is generally applied to non-medical investigations of material integrity, and modern non-destructive testing methods are used to:

Ensure product integrity and reliability; Avoid failures, prevent accidents and protect human life;

Build customer satisfaction; Aid in improved product design and to help lower manufacturing costs;

Maintain uniform quality levels; and Ensure operational readiness.
