Carestream Health Demonstrates Efficiencies Offered By Its New SuperPACS™ Architecture

Trade Trial Site Reports Greater Radiologist Productivity

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 4 — Carestream Health, Inc., demonstrated that its new SuperPACS™ Architecture can create significant workflow efficiencies and cost savings for multi-site imaging services providers at the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) annual conference. The company also showed its newest CARESTREAM RIS/PACS offering. The SuperPACS Architecture and PACS are available for order, and the RIS will be available for order in mid-July.

The SuperPACS Architecture provides a common reading and reporting interface—and a single global worklist—for studies from disparate PACS and archives in a multi-site environment. The platform creates workflow efficiencies by allowing current and prior exams, along with related DICOM and non-DICOM data, captured or stored at any site to be read by a radiologist in any location. The architecture imports patient information and metadata from existing archives into its central database to support this virtualized environment without requiring the migration of pixel data.

A single user interface available through the SuperPACS Architecture offers a unified set of diagnostic tools, which can improve radiologists’ productivity and performance by eliminating the need to adjust to a unique user interface when reading from each vendor’s PACS platform.

West Penn Allegheny Health System is a trade trial site for the SuperPACS Architecture. The trial is underway at the system’s two largest hospitals: Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, both in Pittsburgh, Penn.

“Our goal is to have seamless reading from any point in our radiology services domain. And from what we have seen, the SuperPACS Architecture is exactly what we are looking for because it will allow radiologists in any location to read any study from our global worklist,” said Marc Wallace, M.D., neuroradiologist; Drexel University College of Medicine, Allegheny Campus Director of Imaging Informatics; West Penn Allegheny Health System. “This platform also makes our radiologists more productive by standardizing the user interface, display protocols and other reading tools that now differ for each location.”

The SuperPACS Architecture can intelligently deliver exams to specialists or the first available radiologist through one global worklist. Intelligent streaming and tunneling technologies support rapid transmission over any type of Internet service. It also accommodates multiple patient ID numbers from different sites, and can distinguish between different patients that have the same ID number.

Study information from all sites is automatically updated and there are no limitations on the number of sites or on the amount of image metadata or studies that can be synchronized. This infrastructure also supports business continuity and disaster recovery options.

The SuperPACS Architecture is designed for hospitals and healthcare enterprises, regional health networks, single- or multi-site imaging centers, reading groups and teleradiology services.
