Carestream Health Demonstrates Advanced Capabilities Of Its Newest RIS-PACS Platform

Company Also Shows Future PACS Features as Work in Progress

CHICAGO, Nov. 29 — Carestream Health, Inc., demonstrated future upgrades to its latest PACS platform and showcased its new RIS at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting.

Upgrades to the newest version of CARESTREAM PACS will equip radiologists with tools to enhance productivity by bringing reporting capabilities into a multi-site solution that already includes clinical information, image data and interpretation tools. These reporting capabilities will complement the existing ability of CARESTREAM PACS to perform cross-site reading through a unified global worklist. The new functionality will allow radiologists to add information such as key images, measurement results and other content directly into the report with the click of a button or through voice commands.

The upgrade also will deliver one easy-to-use display interface to associate imported DICOM and non-DICOM data into an existing patient portfolio. The ability to view DICOM and non-DICOM is already supported by the current CARESTREAM PACS. These PACS upgrades were shown as a work in progress to RSNA attendees.

The current CARESTREAM PACS platform, which became available earlier this year, offers a host of efficiency-enhancing features including: reading from a global patient worklist; an innovative PowerViewer that can enhance both the diagnostic quality and speed of interpretations of volumetric imaging studies; centralized storage and viewing of non-DICOM and DICOM data; and the ability to synchronize patient metadata across multiple PACS to provide automatic access to prior exams without pre-fetching or moving the exams to a centralized archive.

Carestream Health also showed its new SuperPACS™ Architecture, which can streamline workflow by allowing radiologists in any on-site or remote location to read from a global worklist that provides a unified set of imaging studies created from multiple vendors’ PACS located throughout the enterprise. This global worklist enables a cross-site, collaborative workflow, allowing optimized use of radiologists as well as enabling efficient sub-specialty reading. It is designed to enhance radiologist productivity and expedite reporting for multi-site healthcare providers worldwide.

New RIS Expedites Scheduling, Boosts Reporting Capabilities

The new CARESTREAM RIS, available for purchase by the end of 2009, expedites scheduling for patients’ imaging exams by allowing schedulers to view availability of equipment and clinicians and supports efficient centralized scheduling for multiple imaging locations. In addition, a one-step tool allows entry of the exam order at the same time the exam and appointment are scheduled. Rules-based scheduling reduces the chance for errors and overall efficiency can be easily monitored through a dashboard, management reports, and strategic management tools.

Powerful new capabilities to improve radiologists’ productivity include interactive voice dictation, voice command and control, and the use of structured reports that standardize the presentation of information. Referring physicians gain convenient access to reports through a secure Web portal, while an optional patient portal gives facilities the ability to allow patients to change appointments—which can simultaneously improve patient satisfaction and utilization of staff resources.
