GENEVA, April 21 - Carestream Health has installed two DR X-ray rooms at the newly built Newton Abbot Community Hospital in South Devon, run by  the Devon Primary Care Trust . With an anticipated increase in demand at the new community-based site, the KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 3500 C-Arm and KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 7500 dual detector systems were chosen to enable the fastest workflow possible consistent with environmentally friendly working practices.

With its simple design, space-saving footprint, and advanced ‘ease of use’ features, the DIRECTVIEW DR 3500 System was chosen to handle a full range of general radiography procedures and enhance productivity and quality of patient care. The versatile single-detector system delivers the productivity of digital radiography in an elegant, floor-mounted system with the C-Arm maintaining constant alignment between the x-ray tube and the Bucky for easy and fast patient positioning.

The KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 7500 also provides the Radiology department at Newton Abbot with maximum flexibility. Its modular components include a wall stand with extending tilt and swing Bucky or a fixed elevating table to maximise patient care while its controls are designed and positioned for ease of use by radiographers.

Radiographer Lyn Alsop has experienced the benefits of the Carestream Health DR systems for herself. ‘The DR technology has improved image quality which ultimately should improve patient care. A sense of familiarity was achieved as the user interface is similar to the previous Carestream CR system’. She added, ‘We currently carry out around 40 exams a day for local GPs and consultants, and that number will increase, so the remotely controlled auto positioning facility and lack of cassettes makes our life a lot less physically demanding’, she went on. ‘Auto positioning was also a big factor in our decision because our hospital has a high proportion of elderly and retired people and it’s easier for them too’.

Keith Goldsworthy, South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Operational Manager, Diagnostics, feels that the new Carestream Health DR systems fit well with the South Devon Health Community’s aim of maximising the potential of bringing diagnostic provision closer to the patient. As he explained: ‘it gave us the opportunity to provide state of the art technology. Carestream Health offered us the ability to deliver a high quality imaging service and thus improve patient care’.
