Carestream Tollcoating Invests in Upgrades of Precision Coating Operations

Advanced Coating Capabilities to Reduce Customer Development Costs and Improve Product Quality

MEDFORD, Ore., June 24 – Carestream Tollcoating, a premier provider of roll-to-roll precision toll coating services, announced a significant investment in its Oregon plant to enable cleaner, more precise coating operations and improved coater flexibility. In addition to equipment enhancements, the plant is hiring several new technical resources to support the growing operation. The new equipment and resources will help deliver enhanced production and pilot coating capabilities that allow for faster scale-up and enable step changes in defect detection and product quality for advanced materials applications.

Updates to the Oregon facility will feature:

  • Additional coating applicators to coat products with smaller tolerances for thickness uniformity than traditional slot and gravure methods used by others.
  • New equipment for defect detection on the production and pilot coaters.
  • More scalable pilot coating operation to enable a closer match to full production scale equipment.
  • Investments of over $1M in 2014 to improve the cleanliness of the coating and drying portions of the production coater, which will improve product quality by minimizing airborne debris.

“Carestream Tollcoating continually advances the quality of our materials and our methodologies to help customers achieve the best coated products available to the market,” said Rick Daniels, General Manager, Carestream Tollcoating. “Our Oregon plant initiatives significantly upgrade our precision coating capabilities and improve coater scalability – resulting in reduced development costs and decreased time to market for our advanced technology customers.”
